Oak Forest HS Junior was highlighted at D228 Board Meeting
Shannon Rodonis spoke at the board meeting regarding the Lee National Denim Day fundraiser

Oak Forest High School Junior Shannon Rodonis was highlighted last week at the District 228 Board of Education meeting. Rodonis participated in the all-school service project, the Lee National Denim Day, which raises money for breast cancer awareness. Rodonis became aware of this service project through her Roar Counselor, Oak Forest High School teacher Cassie Reid. “From the beginning, I volunteered in any way to make the project a success. I helped make posters to promote the fundraiser. Along with other students, we got teachers to make a commitment by (giving) pledge money for this important cause,” Rodonis said. “This project was especially important to me because I have friends and family who were diagnosed with cancer. Therefore, this project has personal significance to me.”
Through this project, Oak Forest High School raised $450 dollars, each participating teacher donating five dollars for research and to discover new ways to prevent cancer.
Rodonis said, “The funding will hopefully help us find a cure for cancer and the donations will also go toward providing support for those affected by the disease. It was exciting to see so many students and staff in their denim jeans and pink shirts at our Fall Recognition Assembly in support of this valuable cause.”
