Oak Forest HS Mathletes

Mathletes Team finishes second at Conference finals

Oak Forest High School Mathletes Coach Sue Poncin announced that the Bengal Mathletes finished a close second in Conference finals held recently at Argo High School. The Bengal Mathletes did well in their individual competitions and scored the Conference championship in their individual events. The senior matrices group consisting of Kevin Conway, Jack Horan, Nick Kunnath, John Rosales, Sally Salman and Lizzy Samoska scored well, as did the senior trig group consisting of Kathy Correa, Liz Hendzel, Benita Joseph, Lizzy Samoska, Jessy Sandoval and Zach Zdanavicius. The sophomore linear functions group consisting of Brandon Bell, Kirstin Birk, Hannah McNaughton, Micala Merino, Rachel Sayegh and Matthew Sinwelski also took the championship in their group, as did the sophomore polynomials group of Amir Alsheikh, Becca Boswell, Patrick Cooke, Ni’Gere Epps, Nathan McGovern, and Darla Thomas. Perfect papers were turned in by Juniors Kika Arias, Amanda Beall & Adam Kral, Sophomore Brandon Bell and Freshman Lynette Latocha. A special congratulations goes to Fresh-Soph Oralists Amir Alsheikh and Darla Thomas for earning a perfect 50 and Conference Champ honors. The Mathletes team is headed by Head Coach Sue Poncin, and Assistant Coaches Mel Gengo and Ken Valiska.
