Oak Forest HS Mathletes Place 5th in Regionals
Seven Mathletes qualified for State competition
Congratulations to the Oak Forest High School Bengal Mathletes for placing 5th at the Lincoln-Way East Regional on Saturday. The OF Bengal Mathletes qualified seven students for the State mathletes competition at the University of Illinois in May. The Senior Pre-Calculus Team earned an automatic bid by meeting the state qualifying score, placing 3rd in the Regional. Team members are: Ni'Gere Epps, Brandon Bell, Amir Al-Sheikh, Matthew Sinwelski, Nathan McGovern, and Kirsten Birk. The Junior/Senior Oral team of Junior Ryan Jerkin and Senior Amir Al-Sheikh placed 2nd in Regionals to earn their spot on the State team. Other OF Bengal Mathlete top finishers were the 3rd Place Calculator Team of Junior Megan O'Keefe, Sophomore Emily Moffit, Seniors Ni'Gere Epps and Nathan McGovern and Freshman Canyon Novick. The 3rd Place Freshmen/Sophomore Two Person Team of Carter Hamrin and E.J. Broniarczyk. The Mathletes are led by Head Coach Sue Poncin, and Assistant Coaches Mel Gengo and Ken Valiska.
