Oak Forest HS Mathletes Start Season With a Win

The Bengal Mathletes kicked off their season with a win at Hillcrest

The Bengal Mathletes kicked off their season right with a win at the Hillcrest meet last night.

A special highlight was perfect papers were earned by sixteen members of the team. They were: Juniors Chastity Berrios, Jenna Brown, Tom Deuter, Maggie Gniadecki, Kaley Torez, Kika Arias, Nicole Borosak and Adam Kral; Sophomores Brandon Bell, Kirsten Birk, Ivan Czajkowski, Nathan McGovern, Emily Papiez, Jonathan Sullivan-Wood, Darla Thomas and Freshman Ryan Ahlgrim.

Special recognition goes to the Geometry group of Kirsten Birk, Patrick Cooke, NiGere Epps and Darla Thomas for a perfect 50 in Geometry. Also, Amir Alsheikh and Becca Boswell deserve congratulations for winning the oral competition.

Oak Forest High School Mathletes compete in a variety of written, oral, and group competitions. Students compete at their grade level on a variety of math topics. There are four levels of competition: freshmen, sophomore, junior and senior.

The Mathletes team is coached by Head Coach Sue Poncin, and Assistant Coaches Mel Gengo and Ken Valiska.
