Oak Forest HS Rewarded at Recognition Breakfast

Students were recommended by their teachers for this special breakfast

Oak Forest High School students Canyon Novick (right) accepts his $15 Xbox gift certificate and Charles Finch (left) accepts his $15 AMC Theater gift certificate at the OFHS Student Recognition Breakfast.

To be invited to the breakfast, students had to be recommended by a teacher, according to Oak Forest High School Assistant Principal Jane Dempsey. When students walked in to the IMC, they received a recognition awards certificate, a copy of the recognition form the teachers filled out, and a Bengal paw pin. It was pretty cool! The fun didn’t stop there! The group was treated to a yummy continental breakfast of fruit, bagels and donuts.

Afterwards, students participated in a Bengal Bingo game, hosted by Oak Forest High School Principal Dr. Brad Sikora. Dr. Sikora showed off his mad bingo-calling skills and created several games on the spot; students filled out bingo cards in the regular way, the four corners way, an x, and vertical and horizontal without the free space. He really made the students work for the prizes they could earn. Instead of calling out BINGO! when students won, Dr. Sikora had them call out a Bengal ROAR! And earn they did. In addition to Canyon and Finch’s winnings from above, Justin Banacek won a $15 AMC Theatre card, along with Zack Lipine, who also won a $15 iTunes card as well. Brianna Alarcon won a $15 iTunes gift card along with Nia McDaniels and Tamara Pattie, who also won a $15 Xbox gift card, along with Emily Papiez.

Zack Lipine thought Dr. Sikora was a great Bengals Bingo caller, and he should know as he calls Bingo at the Providence nursing home on Wednesdays in the summer. “I liked Dr. Sikora’s jingle,” he said. “The seniors where I call Bingo like calls slower and louder [than Dr. Sikora did.]”

“Congratulations on your recognition today,” Dr. Sikora said to the students gathered in the IMC.
