Oak Forest HS Seniors Earn Awards at South Suburban Art Show

The art show was held at Trinity Christian College in Palos Heights

Oak Forest High School Seniors Megan Hines, Amanda Solis, and Miguel Martinez were big winners at the South Suburban Art Show, recently held at Trinity Christian College in Palos Heights. The three Seniors submitted their artwork for the juried art show and were delighted to find they had won at the Art Show reception.

Megan Hines won “Best in Show” with her mixed media piece titled “Untitled.” According to Hines, her piece is pen and ink on vellum paper over colored paper poster board with acrylic paint. She said, “I was trying to evoke the feeling to get the viewer to think that even in death there can be life.”

Amanda Solis won “Best in School Honorable Mention” with her piece entitled “Cake.” It is a sculpture made of wire covered in plaster gauze and mixed plaster and then painted with acrylic paint. Solis said, “This figure is an abstract woman’s figure. It is a modern twist on the Renaissance figure by using modern, pop art colors and the Renaissance poses.”

Miguel Martinez won the “Best in School” with his piece entitled “Untitled.” It is a pen and ink drawing. Martinez said, “This piece is an exercise in perspective on a building that my father has worked in. It caught my eye and I took a picture of it and then drew it from there and added my own style elements. I added different texturization.”

Oak Forest High School Art teacher Dan Chambers was very pleased about the way Oak Forest students did at the SSC Art Show. He said, “I felt that the OF portion of the show looked great and we were well represented by our students. I am pleased with the three pieces that won because of the time that each piece represents for each artist.”
