Oak Forest HS Sports Marketing Class Sponsors Test Drive Event
Students learned marketing and sales skills
The Oak Forest High School Sports Marketing class sponsored a Dodge Ram Test drive event for teachers in cooperation with Ehcin Marketing Solutions, a local company. Students learned how to market opportunities to teachers through personal conversations in which they practiced their fledgling sales skills and through emails about the event.
Oak Forest High School Senior Jon Doolin worked the Dodge Ram test drive. Doolin, who wants to major in sports marketing next year when he goes to college, had to present the test drive to a teacher and get his signature that he or she would attend the event. Doolin was successful in inviting OFHS teacher Ron Czarnecki. He learned what it takes to market an event like this Dodge Ram test drive event. “Even though this was a smaller event,” he said, “there is a lot that goes into marketing the event.” One of the hardest things to learn, according to Doolin, was how to convince a person to come to the event. He learned that to do so, an enticement is needed to get people to come out to the event.
Oak Forest High School Junior Tyler Russell agreed with Doolin. However, he was very successful in promoting the event and invited three OFHS staff members to attend: Katie Campbell, Janet Kentner, and Theresa Thormeyer. “I convinced them that they had a chance to win Notre Dame tickets and that they would be helping out our class.” One of his test drive recruits, Katie Campbell, won the Notre Dame tickets.

Convincing staff members to come to the event was not hard, said Oak Forest High School Junior Brittany Jalovec. “I told them what was going to happen and asked if they wanted a free lunch,” she said. She was successful in inviting two teachers to the event: Adam Wagner and Tom Vaughan.
Teachers and staff members got to drive a cool Dodge Ram truck and then the teachers were offered a delightful lunch of hamburgers, hot dogs and chips, provided by Fat Pepper Catering. One of the trucks that was available to drive, according to OFHS Sports Marketing teacher Katie Gomez, was the Dodge Blackhawks truck. Teachers and staff members also got entered into a raffle, the grand prize of which was Notre Dame vs. Navy tickets.
