Oak Forest HS Students Attend Leadership Summit
"Complain Less: Give More" was theme for summit
Oak Forest High School leadership students Benita Joseph, Jessy Sandoval, Briana Alarcon, Jillian Moss, Sally Salman, Nick Kunnath, Darla Thomas, Jack Neylon, Jalil Abdallah and adviser Ms. Kelly Henry attended the SSC Leadership Summit, held at Evergreen Park High School.
“Complain Less: Give More” was the theme of the February Student Council and National Honor Society SSC Leadership Summit. Motivating students was leadership speaker Scott Bakovich, who was in from Los Angeles, to speak to the students.
“If you want things to be better [at your school],” Bakovich said, “then you need to put in the time to make things better. I’m asking you to leave here and change someone’s life.” Bakovich spent time telling students that they are the ones who cannot stand idly by and watch things happen around them at school; he said that students have to be the change. “The only reason people stay in school is if we make it worth their time.”

One of the poignant moments was when Bakovich asked students to identify a kid that doesn’t have friends at school. He said, “You will be remembered by the people you help. You all leave some sort of legacy and it is important that you do something that matters.”
