Oak Forest HS Students Collect Clothes for Thrift Stores
The sophomore class collected and donated 1,500 lbs. of clothing

Oak Forest High School sophomores Abby Hogan and Johnny Cooke donate mounds of clothes to a local thrift shop that Oak Forest High School students collected and donated over the course of a month.
According to Sophomore Class Sponsor Kristy Collins, the clothing donation drive was part of a larger fundraiser where the sophomore students were paid per pound for the clothing they collected in the clothing drive at OFHS. OFHS Sophomore Council Representative Johnny Cooke said, “[We donated it to] Unique Thrift Store over on Kedzie. They collected it, they weighed it, and they paid by the pound. You can bring anything like old pans and pots or anything like clothes or old toys. We had mainly old clothes.” Goods from the fundraiser are distributed to local thrift stores. Collins said, “The gently used goods then stay in the community for resale. The goods we donated totaled 1,500 pounds!” According to Cooke, the clothing that the students collected filled a Bengal bus and also Mrs. Collins’s car as well. Sophomore Class President Abby Hogan said, “We thought we could raise a lot of money with this fundraiser. It was nice to see what we could do in the future.” Hogan is already thinking of hosting a Sophomore Class garage sale which sells OFHS student-donated goods. Hogan says that Sophomore class fundraising is going pretty well and that the class has some bake sales coming up in the near future.
