Oak Forest HS Students Hold "Julia's Legacy Pillow Party"
Event created pillows to be given to children battling cancer

Oak Forest High School students Paige Wiesner, Benita Joseph, and Maura Julian stuff pillows at the Safari Yearbook sponsored “Julia’s Legacy Pillow Party.” Over 150 Oak Forest High School students worked together to stuff pillows that are used in tote bags given to comfort kids with cancer by the Cure It Foundation.
“Julia’s Legacy” is named for Oak Forest High School alumna Julia Janes, who lost her battle with cancer in November 2013. Julia’s parents, Leslie and Jeff Janes, created “Julia’s Legacy,” to help other children suffering with cancer. Julia was an editor and a staffer with the school yearbook, so Kate Vana, Yearbook sponsor, knew that hosting this event would help honor Julia’s memory.
At the “Julia’s Legacy Pillow Party” event, pillows were made with some of Julia’s favorite inspirational quotes. Students came to the IMC after school and stuffed pillows for the tote bags, enjoyed snacks, and watched a slide show that featured pictures of Julia.
