Oak Forest HS Students Make the Cell Come Alive
Biology students build models of the cell structure
Oak Forest High School Biology students built models of the cell structure and displayed them proudly in the Instructional Materials Center. Students had been learning the parts of the cell in class and Oak Forest High School teacher Gina West wanted a hands-on way students could visualize the different parts of the cell. She devised a clever way where students made their own clay out of flour, salt and water, and modeled the structure of the cells from the outside cell membrane to the nucleus. The students painted the models and affixed labels to the different parts of the cell that they had created.
Displaying their cell models are: Oak Forest High School teacher Ms. Gina West, Drashti Patel, Martin Manchikj, Alexander Hernandez, Mahamadou Drame, Mays Hussein, Shebel Cruz-Cruz, Caesar Navarro, Daniel Cuevas, Diana Rosas, Ashley Carrillo, and Juan Gasca.
