Oak Forest HS Students Win in the 9th Annual SSC Video Competition

Rachel Fimbianti and Taylor Szkolny won for their Millennial Monthly News Program

Congratulations to Oak Forest High School Senior Rachel Fimbianti and Junior Taylor Szkolny, who were awarded 3rd place for their Millennial Monthly News Program at the 9th Annual South Suburban College Video Competition. Rachel was also awarded 2nd place for her news story entitled “Powers.”

The girls, who are both interested in film and writing, are part of the Communication Arts and Technology Program, offered through District 228 at Bremen High School. “I love movies--I look up trivia on movies I haven’t even seen. This class gives me a new perspective on how movies are made which helps me appreciate them in a different way,” said Rachel Fimbianti. In addition to being the Millennial Monthly News Program Anchor, Fimbianti is also the producer. “I like being the producer. I make sure things are pulled together, create transitions, and act as the go between for the teacher and students,” Fimbianti said. She is graduating this year and is headed to Northwestern’s School of Communications.

Szkolny, is also the anchor of the Millennial Monthly News Program but really enjoys the writing aspect of the class. “I wanted to take the class because I want to be an author. Having a chance to do some screenwriting drew me to the class,” she said. Szkolny likes putting together stories that are interesting for the students. She has put story packages (the story, several interviews and B roll footage) together for stories such as “Five ways to stay happy and healthy during the winter” and “Selfie Safety.”
