Oak Forest HS Teacher Takes Pie in Face to Teach a Lesson

Not every teacher would volunteer to get a pie in the face in order to teach an important lesson to his science students, but on August 27, Oak Forest High School science teacher Ron Czarnecki had a pie thrown in his face for science.

Czarnecki is concluding a series of lectures about lab safety that all science teachers conduct at the beginning of school.  The purpose of these lectures is to teach basic skills that will protect students in the event of an accident during a lab involving chemicals.  One of those lectures has to deal with the necessity of safety goggles while working with chemicals.

“We can wash a lot of things off with the help of water, but it is harder to do if [the chemicals] get into your eye,” Czarnecki teaches the students.

Social worker Jen DeBosschere threw a shaving cream pie into Mr. Czarnecki’s face while he was wearing goggles to simulate what would happen if acid accidentally got on someone’s face.  He removed the glasses and his eyes were free of the shaving cream.  “What do you notice here?” he asks and his students reply that his eyes are free of the shaving cream.
