Oak Forest HS Teaching Internship Students Decorate Bulletin Boards

Teaching Internship students design and decorate bulletin boards for OFHS staff

There is a class of students at Oak Forest High School who are learning to be teachers. This class is called the Teaching Internship class because students actually intern in community schools throughout the year. The class is a district class which means students from all four district schools can take the class.

In class, they discuss ethical issues teachers face and practice handwriting sheets so that when they write on the board in their teaching placement classroom, the students will be able to read what they write.

One aspect of their curriculum is the design and decorating of bulletin boards. As a class, they design and decorate several bulletin boards in the hallway advertising different areas of study.

Oak Forest High School Teaching Internship student Anna Greenys said that decorating a bulletin board is “pretty calming.” Greenys, who would someday like to teach language arts in a middle school, noted that the OFHS teaching internship class would start with their classroom placement in October.

Oak Forest High School Teaching Internship teacher Kim Flannigan would like to kick the bulletin board experience up a notch. She said, “I would like for the Teaching Internship students to get a ‘hands-on’ approach in this area.” As a result, the teaching internship program is going to offer their expertise in the design and decoration of bulletin boards for the teachers of Oak Forest High School.

Teachers can request teaching internship students to design and decorate a bulletin board in their room, for a small fee. The fee restocks supplies used to make the bulletin board.
