Oak Forest HS's Maslovska Wins 'Best in School' at SSC Art Show
Maya won for a charcoal portrait entitled 'Luke'
Congratulations to Oak Forest High School Senior Maya Maslovska for winning “Best in School” at the South Suburban College Regional High School Art Show. Maya won for a charcoal portrait entitled 'Luke'. Her artwork was entered by OFHS Art teacher Dan Chambers. Maslovska, who has taken many art classes, used a photograph that she took in Photography class as the basis of the charcoal drawing. She said, “The picture is of my boyfriend Luke, from Sandburg High School.” She hadtaken the picture in an assignment to take pictures of someone from school. She took the existing photograph, and drew gridlines on it. Then she drew what she saw within each box in the corresponding grid on her charcoal drawing. The result was very stunning. Maslovska, however, is very modest. “I was surprised it was ‘Best in School’,” she said. Maslovska plans to explore graphic design next year in college.
