Oak Forest HS's Thomas Awarded HOBY Scholarship
Darla Thomas is the recipient of the Hugh O'Brien Youth Leadership Scholarship

Oak Forest High School Sophomore Darla Thomas has been awarded this year’s HOBY (Hugh O’Brien Youth Leadership) scholarship. Every year students are selected to attend the HOBY Leadership Conference at Loyola University in Chicago. Thomas earned this scholarship by being an active member and leader in various clubs and activities at Oak Forest High School. She is the President of the Sophomore Class, in Interact, Key Club, and girls’ soccer. Thomas enjoys working with freshman students during her time as a Freshman Advisor. This year, she said, they have discussed such topics as “decision making, time management, clubs and activities to join, peer pressure, and things that all high school students go through.” Contributing to others is very important to Thomas. In Interact, she works with senior citizens during the Senior Citizens’ luncheon and during the Valentine’s Day Dance. As the Sophomore Class President, her big upcoming project is organizing a coat drive and organizing fundraisers.
