Oak Forest Police Issue Auto Theft Crime Alert
"Please review the following crime prevention measures listed to limit your exposure to this type of crime."
The Oak Forest Police Department as well as numerous other south suburban police agencies are experiencing a higher than normal number of auto thefts is the area. The offender(s) in these cases are taking advantage of residents that leave their unattended running cars at gas stations and other places of business. In addition, offenders(s) have been known to target residential areas where key fobs are left in unlocked automobiles or in open residential garages. If you should encounter any offenders engaged in this type of criminal activity, please do not attempt to intercede and immediately call 911. Please review the following crime prevention measures listed to limit your exposure to this type of crime.

- Keep all valuables out of sight inside your car
- Remove all keys and keys fobs from within your vehicle when not in use
- Ensure that your garage door is shut and locked
- Improve your lighting outside of your residence
- Do not leave cars running and unattended
- Be aware of your surroundings and report all suspicious activity to the police department
- Do not leave children unattended in automobiles
