Oak Forest Woman Named Head Varsity Softball Coach at St. Laurence

St. Laurence High School taps girls' softball and soccer coaches as school transitions to co-ed.

BURBANK, IL -- St. Laurence High School continues to form its varsity girls coaching staff as the all-boys Catholic high school transitions to co-ed, tapping Teagan Walsh as varsity girls softball coach. In addition to her duties as coach, she will join the admissions staff at St. Laurence.

Currently residing in Oak Forest, Walsh becomes the first girls softball coach in St. Laurence history. For the last two seasons, she served as an assistant coach for Marist High School’s varsity softball team. While at Marist, she oversaw the pitchers and worked closely with the offense and infielders.

“I know that, with the help of the administration and coaches, we can create a successful softball program for the future girls of St. Laurence,” Walsh said in a news release.

A 2015 graduate of Western Illinois University, Walsh was a four-year starter at the Division I level, playing pitcher and first baseman. A lifetime utility player, Walsh brings an all-encompassing perspective to the game as a coach.

“We are very excited to have Coach Walsh lead our softball program,” said St. Laurence Athletic Director Tim Chandler. “She has played the game at a high level and has coached in a very successful program. She knows what it will take to build a winning program, and we are confident that she has the dedication and work ethic necessary to make it happen.”

St. Laurence High School also named Kyle Boekeloo as the head varsity girls soccer coach. In addition to his duties as a coach, he will be a math teacher at the school.

Boekeloo becomes the first girls soccer coach in St. Laurence history. He comes from St. Joseph High School, where he was a soccer coach for both the boys and girls teams. Boekeloo had a decorated time as coach at St. Joseph, helping lead the boys team to a second place finish in state in 2014, along with winning the school’s first girls soccer Regional Championship in 2015.

“I’m honored and excited to call myself a Viking,” said Boekeloo. “The feeling I experienced after learning that I received this opportunity is indescribable. I could not be more excited to begin my journey at St. Laurence. My wife and I are thrilled to join this new family.”

As a player, Boekeloo was named an All-American after his senior season at Dominican University. He helped lead the team to a Division III Final Four appearance in 2009 and was a captain during his junior and senior seasons.

“We are excited to welcome Kyle Boekeloo to the St. Laurence family as our head girls soccer coach,” said St. Laurence Athletic Director Tim Chandler. “His passion for and knowledge of the sport were very apparent during the interview process. Kyle has a strong coaching background, and he has been a part of some very successful teams. We look forward to him duplicating that success with our girls soccer program.”

Soccer players entering 5th through 8th grade can meet Coach Boekeloo for the first time at the school’s soccer summer camp from July 10-13. The coed camp will also be run by boys soccer coach Matt Prunckle. Parents can find more information at St. Laurence High School Summer Camps.
