Oak Forest High School Grad Killed in Will County Crash

Daniel McGuire, 48, was driving a U.S. Postal Service truck involved in the crash.

A U.S. Postal Service worker and 1984 graduate of Oak Forest High School was killed Thursday when the mail truck he was driving was involved in a crash with a Culligan water truck in Channahon Township, Will County Sheriff’s police said.

The Will County Coroner’s office identified the man as 48-year-old Daniel M. McGuire of Channahon.

Spokeswoman Kathy Hoffmeyer said the crash occurred at around 12:30 p.m. on Youngs Road south of Cavalea Drive near Cavalea Continental Freight.

Hoffmeyer said the postal carrier’s Grumman truck was headed south on Youngs when it went onto the shoulder of the road, then came back onto the roadway, crossed the center line and struck the northbound Culligan truck.

Hoffmeyer said it was not immediately clear what caused the crash.

The driver of the Culligan truck was not injured, she said.

A representative of the Illinois State Motor Carrier Safety Division was called to the scene to inspect the trucks. According to Hoffmeyer, the 32-year-old driver of the Culligan truck was cited for no having a medical card on his commercial driver’s license.

Hoffmeyer said Will County Sheriff’s police remained on the scene and were still investigating the crash as of around 2:30 p.m. Thursday.
