Oh, Just Bury in the Backyard

Death and dying are natural parts of life. When we deny their place
in our lives, we cause physical pain and emotional suffering for
everyone involved. The need for changes in education, attitudes toward

death, ethics in medical practices and the debilitating death-denial
in
our culture must be addressed so we can reclaim dying as a part of
living that is as sacred to all of life as is birth. It is time we learn
to recognize the end of life does not occur in a day, it is a process
of many months and even years. When we support the end of life with
understanding, preparation, dignity, comfort, and compassion, we will
live—and leave--in peace.

Loretta Downs’ father opened and closed any opportunity to talk about death with just one comment, “Oh, just bury me in the backyard!” Ms. Downs tells stories and uses humor to talk about dying and death in positive terms.

Don't miss Loretta Downs give her presentation "Oh, Just Bury Me in the Backyard" on Saturday, September 7th at 2:00pm at the library.
