Peaceful Protest Set For Friday In Oak Forest
The City of Oak Forest is in contact with protest organizers to help assure a safe and orderly event on June 12 at 6 p.m.

On Friday, June 12, 2020, a protest march is going to be held in Midlothian and Oak Forest. The march is to bring attention to recent events and causes associated with the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The City of Oak Forest is in contact with protest organizers to help assure a safe and orderly event.

The march is scheduled to begin at 6:00 pm on June 12th near Walgreens at 147th Street and Cicero Avenue in Midlothian, Illinois. Participants plan to march southbound on Cicero Avenue to 159th Street in Oak Forest, where the route will turn west until they reach Central Avenue. Participants will then proceed north on Central until they reach the City Hall campus at 155th Street. While it is likely that a few speakers will address participants of the march, it is anticipated the entire event will be over by 8:00 pm.
Traffic patterns will be affected between 6:00 pm and 8:00 pm in Oak Forest. The march will be confined to the southbound lanes of Cicero Avenue, westbound lanes of 159th Street and northbound lane of Central Avenue through the use of barricades, as well as traffic control procedures.

Oak Forest Mayor Hank Kuspa said, βWe are confident this event will proceed in a safe and professional manner so residents and businesses are unaffected. Our staff has been taking steps to prepare for this event and is fully prepared to respond to any situations that may arise.β
Should anyone plan to travel through Oak Forest during this time on Friday, June 12, or want to watch this event, please be reminded that traffic may be difficult to maneuver. The City of Oak Forest encourages the use of alternative routes for ingress and egress during this time.
