Movie Theater Shooting: Man In Wheelchair Shot To Death

A 32-year-old man was killed while in a wheelchair in the parking lot of the Marcus Cinema in Country Club Hills Monday.

COUNTRY CLUB HILLS, IL -- A 32-year-old man who was in a wheelchair in the parking lot of the Marcus Cinema in Country Club Hills Monday was shot and killed before a police chase ensued throughout the south and west suburbs on Interstate 294. The victim was with his girlfriend and a child and had just gotten out of his car in the parking lot of the theater on 167th Street when he was shot in the chest and upper right thigh, according to a report from the Chicago Tribune. He was pronounced dead after he was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.

Shortly the parking lot shooting, a police chase reportedly in connection with the shooting, involved law enforcement and the fugitive vehicle reaching speeds of 100 mph.

Illinois State Police joined multiple agencies on northbound Interstate 294 after the chase began just before 5 p.m. Both the fugitive vehicle and police cars were at speeds on 100 mph when they passed the Hinsdale Oasis at 4:59 p.m., according to a report from Northern Illinois FireGround Photos. The fleeing vehicle, a black Mercedes according to an NBC-Chicago report, was lost on I-294. A NIFG report indicates that was near the Ogden Avenue exit in the west suburbs.

Country Club Hills police told the Tribune that they lost track of a vehicle they were pursuing in connection with the shooting around 152nd Street in Harvey.
