The Race is On in Bremen HS's Industrial Technology Labs

Applied Engineering students designed and built their own CO2 racing cars!

Bremen High School Industrial Technology teacher Mr. Jerry Ward took the Applied Engineering curriculum to a new level this year. Students designed and built their own CO2 racing cars! Students were up for the performance challenge; each student started out with a simple piece of bass wood and rose to the test of constructing a championship vehicle. Students researched and explored different types of designs and styles to find one that would achieve the maximum acceleration and speed. They combined their research with their own ideas and thoughts for the final design. Their enthusiasm and “need for speed” produced a team of champions.

While putting their custom vehicles to the test, Mr. Ward invited the District EXCEL students (functional life skills program) to enjoy the races. “This was great! Not only were the Applied Engineering students really into the races, but to have an audience for them put this lesson over the top! The EXCEL and Applied Engineering students were learning while having a great time!” said Mr. Ward.
