No Child Found In Woods After 'Exhaustive' Search: Forest Preserve PD

Authorities on Sunday were searching for what was reportedly an infant or small child crying within a preserve at 167th and Cicero.

OAK FOREST, IL — No child was found after an exhaustive search by authorities responding to reports of a child crying in the woods of the Midlothian Reservoir. The search was complete and called off Sunday evening.

Residents observed heavy police presence Sunday at the Oak Forest forest preserve. Oak Forest police and Cook County Forest Preserve Police officers were on the scene at Midlothian Reservoir at 167th and Cicero, said Oak Forest Police Chief Jason Reid.

Authorities responded to reports of "an infant or small child crying from within the Cook County Forest preserve near Twin Lakes," Reid said.

"The forest preserve police led an exhaustive search, which included ATVs, three K9 units, thermal imaging, drones, foot search, as well as the Cook County Sheriff’s helicopter," said Stacina Stegner, the district's communications manager.

"No child was found, and there is no indication additional search is needed."
