Roy and Cathy Cooper Receive the D228 Board Award of the Month

The Coopers have volunteered hundreds of hours to the music programs at Oak Forest High School

At last night’s Board of Education meeting, Board Member Leslie Jones presented the Board Award of the Month to Fine Arts Booster Club parents Cathy and Roy Cooper. The Coopers have two daughters who attend OFHS. Emily is a senior and is an accomplished vocal and instrumental musician; Audrey is a sophomore and an accomplished musician.

Cathy Cooper has served as the OFHS Music Booster Board Secretary for the past two years and has chaired or assisted with all band and choir events, including Jazz Nite and the Madrigal Dinner performances. One of her biggest accomplishments is that she organized this year’s New York trip with student performances on the deck of the USS Intrepid. She also coordinates the Madrigal Choir’s performances at the Renaissance Fair, organizes band concessions at home football games, edits the music program’s monthly newsletter, and takes pictures of events for the Fine Arts program website.

Roy Cooper coordinates the physical set-up for band and choir events, which is especially important for extensive set ups like Jazz Nite and the Madrigal Dinner. He drives and maintains the trailer with band instruments and transports band equipment to all band events and competitions away from school. He has also volunteered numerous hours to supervise students at competitions and provided his expertise with various arrangements for performance events.
