CRESTWOOD, IL -- A reckless driver was arrested after police found a loaded 9mm gun in her car, prosecutors said. Beverly Ross, 27, of Chicago, appeared before Cook County Judge John Mahoney on a felony charge of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon. Ross was also cited with three traffic violations.
According to the charges, on April 24, officers saw a driver in a Dodge Journey make an improper turn in the 4300 block of West 135th Street in Crestwood. As officers approached the vehicle, they detected an odor of fresh cannabis and perfume inside the car. Police also noted a cracked windshield.
The driver, later identified as Ross, presented a passport to officers. She allegedly told police there was a loaded gun in the car. Officers said they found a loaded 9mm Ruger in the driver’s side compartment. Ross did not have FOID card or conceal-carry license, the prosecutor said.
