Southland Residents Choose to #Walkon, #BetheLight in Suicide Prevention

Patch asked our readers to tell us why suicide prevention matters to them.

We asked, you answered.

Patch teamed up with Lemont’s Hope and Friendship Foundation to walk together in the Chicagoland Out of the Darkness suicide prevention walk Saturday, Sept. 20. Organized by the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, the walk is a fundraising effort to drum up support for research, prevention, education and support services across the country. Terri O’Neill Borders and I set our goal at $1,000—and you pushed us over that, to nearly $1,200.

What a beautiful gesture. Some also chose to participate in our hashtag challenge, where we encouraged readers to tell us why suicide prevention matters to them, using a photo with the hashtag #walkon, or #bethelight.
