Special Seat Belt Patrols Started Friday

Sheriff will focus on seat belt violators through Labor Day, Sept. 1.

Cook County Sheriff’s Police will be conducting significant enforcement efforts focusing on seat belt violations in Cook County, Sheriff Thomas J. Dart said Friday. Officers will be conducting seatbelt enforcement today, Aug. 22-Aug. 27 and Aug. 29-Sept. 1.

In a similar enforcement from June 22 to July 5, 2014, Sheriff’s Police issued 131 seat belt citations and discovered 22 individuals driving with suspended or revoked licenses. Over the course of that enforcement three fugitives were apprehended.

These enhanced patrols are all funded through a grant from the Illinois Department of Transportation.
