Tinley Park Animal Shelter Seeks Donations after Canine Flu Outbreak

Some dogs are in recovery, well others are still quite sick. Shelter staff seeks donations to offset cost of care.

P.A.W.S. of Tinley Park is seeking the public’s help following the recent outbreak of canine flu. The organization has about 30 dogs in recovery, but eight dogs are still sick. P.A.W.S. is giving the sick dogs oxygen and IV fluids, as well as hand-feeding them.

P.A.W.S. is primarily looking for monetary donations to help offset increased costs of caring for the dogs.

“The community has been very gracious,” said John Greenan. “Our normal monthly operating cost is about $20,000, but with this new outbreak that has doubled—almost tripled—this month alone. Any help the Tinley Park community can provide would be greatly welcomed.”

The outbreak has affected all of the pet shelters in the area, Greenan said. P.A.W.S. is closed and will remain closed until given the all-clear by medical staff from Midwest Animal Hospital.

Midwest Animal Hospital also is selling candy bars for $1, with all profits going to P.A.W.S. of Tinley Park. Visit the hospital at 11205 W. 183rd Place, Orland Park, or call them at (708) 478-7788 for more information.
