Two D228 Administrators Chosen to Present at the IASB South Cook Meeting

Presentation will highlight successes in D228 with the inclusion of Common Core Standards

District 228 is proud to announce that Mr. Tom O’Shea, English Department Supervisor, and Mr. Colin Milton, Social Studies Department Supervisor will be presenting in the IASB South Cook Division Meeting on March 31 in Flossmoor, Illinois. The program, entitled “Common Core State Standards: Where Are We Now?” will share the processes and components enacted to ready school districts for a curricular shift to the Common Core State Standards. It will also address instructional transitioning toward Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers (PARCC) assessment readiness.

Mr. O’Shea and Mr. Milton were selected to present at the event based on their responses to the question, “Why should the district I represent serve as a featured district for Common Core State Standards integration?” Their responses spoke of the great strides in the implementation of the Standards in our core curriculum and in our assessment process as well as a heavy focus on the development of reading and writing skills that are driven by content based materials.

The presentation made by O’Shea and Milton will highlight successes in District 228 with the inclusion of Common Core Standards into our curriculum and assessment process as well as our continued professional development to support this initiative. “We are really proud of the work these two are doing with their teachers to support the infusion of reading of writing through their respective curriculum. Our teachers are developing deeper critical thinking skills, which will serve our students well in their post-secondary endeavors,” said Dr. Corinne Williams, Assistant Superintendent for Teaching and Learning.
