Charges In Fatal Shooting Of Rockford Man Outside Of Christ Hospital

A Chicago man is charged with first degree murder after a Rockford man died when he was shot outside of Christ Medical Center early Saturday

OAK LAWN, IL — A Chicago man has been accused in the shooting death of a Rockford man outside of Advocate Aurora Christ Medical Center early Saturday morning. Marques Rose, 36, has been charged with the first-degree murder of 28-year-old Brandon McGee.

The shooting outside of the Christ Medical Center emergency room entrance unfolded a few miles away when two men were shot in the 800 block of West 87th Street in Chicago just before 1 a.m. Saturday. The first man suffered a gunshot wound in the head. A handgun was discovered next to him, Chicago police said. The man was brought to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn. He was later pronounced dead.

The second man sustained two gunshot wounds to the chest. He was taken to Little Company of Mary Hospital in Evergreen Park and was pronounced dead a short time later. No one is in custody.

A large group went to the Evergreen Park hospital, thinking both wounded men had been taken there. Learning that the first man had been transported to Oak Lawn, the group began migrating to Christ Medical Center. Learning that a large group was headed to Oak Lawn, police headed to the hospital emergency room entrance at 94th Street and Kilbourn to maintain the crowd.

While en route around 2 a.m. the Oak Lawn officers heard a single gunshot near a large group of people that had gathered outside the ER. When officers arrived, a large group of people had gathered outside the ER. The Rockford man was on the ground with a gunshot wound in the left eye, police said. Another man was observed running away from the scene.

The injured man, later identified as McGree, was taken immediately into the ER in critical condition, where he died later Saturday.

Witnesses told police that the fleeing man was the shooter. Officers apprehended him and placed him under arrest for suspicion of aggravated battery with a firearm. Police said the man was later identified as the shooter and a loaded revolver believed to be the gun involved was recovered.

The suspect, identified as Rose, was apprehended a short time later. He was charged with first degree murder and has a bond hearing Sunday in the Leighton Criminal Court Building.

Christ Medical Center is a major trauma center that treats a majority of gunshot victims from Chicago's South Side.

Rose is due in court Sunday for a bond hearing at the Leighton Criminal Courts Building at 26th Street and California.
