9-Year-Old Child Drowns in Alsip Hotel Swimming Pool: Police

The girl was reportedly in area for cheerleading competition. Alsip police say child was found unresponsive in pool at DoubleTree Hotel.

ALSIP, IL -- A 9-year-old girl has drowned after she was found unresponsive in a swimming pool late Saturday afternoon at an Alsip hotel, police said.

The Alsip Police Department assisted the Alsip Fire Department in responding to a call of unresponsive person in the swimming pool at DoubleTree Hotel Alsip at 5000 W. 127 St. Paramedics immediately began life saving procedures and transported the girl to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.

The child was pronounced deceased around 6:37 p.m. The girl was reportedly visiting the area for a cheerleading competition. No foul play is suspected at this time, said Division Chief Jay Miller, of the Alsip Police Department.

The child’s name is being withheld pending notification of her family.
