14-Year-Old Shot, Cop Car Hit By Bullet In Oak Lawn Shooting

The 14-year-old Chicagoan and 18-year-old Evergreen Park resident were pursued by people in an SUV that began shooting at them, police say.

OAK LAWN, IL — A 14-year-old was shot Saturday afternoon as the vehicle the teen was riding was pursued and shot at by the occupants of an SUV. An Oak Lawn police vehicle was also struck by gunfire, police said.

Just after 3 p.m., Oak Lawn police answered a call of shots fired in the area of 96th Street and Pulaski Road. Moments later, a second call came in reporting shots being fired at 103rd Street and Cicero Avenue.

An 18-year-old from Evergreen Park and the 14-year-old Chicago resident told police they were traveling south on Pulaski Road when the occupants of a black Audi SUV began shooting at them. The teens fled south on Pulaski Road to 103rd Street, when they continued westbound with the shooters pursuing.

Police said the teens drove into the parking lot of the BP gas station on the northeast corner, where the driver and front passenger of the Audi again opened fire at the teens' vehicle. A police vehicle was also struck by a round. The officer was not injured.

Traffic on Cicero Avenue was shut down for a short period of time. Several shell casings were recovered. The 14-year-old was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center with non–life threatening injuries.
