18-Year-Old Hometown Man Charged In Gas Station Shooting: Police

BURBANK, IL – An 18-year-old Hometown man has been charged with a felony weapons charge after a 39-year-old man was found shot several times at a gas station Sunday night before he died two days later from his injuries, police said on Thursday.

Andrew Elam was arrested on Tuesday in Hickory Hills after he was identified as the suspect in the shooting of a 39-year-old man at the Gulf gas station located at 8458 S. Cicero Ave, police said. The victim, whose identity has not been released by police at the request of the victim's family, was discovered in a 2005 Chrysler Pacific which police officers found crashed into the side of the gas station shortly after 10:30 p.m. on Sunday.

Officers discovered the victim sitting on the driver’s side of the vehicle having been shot several times. The victim was transported to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he died from his injuries on Tuesday, police said.

During the investigation, which was conducted by Burbank Police and the Southwest Major Crimes Task Force, Elam was identified as the suspect and taken into custody Tuesday. On Wednesday, Elam was charged with felony aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and was transported to the Cook County Courthouse in Bridgeview, where bond was set at $500,000.
