20 Oak Lawn Spartans Headed To IHSA Speech Finals This Weekend
Oak Lawn Community High School's speech team clinches sectionals in six events and is now headed to Peoria this weekend for the IHSA finals.

OAK LAWN, IL — The Oak Lawn Community High School speech team finished in first place at sectionals this past weekend and advanced in six events. The performance-in-the-round group also snared first place. The Spartans head to the IHSA state competition this weekend in Peoria.
The following students will compete this week: Mariam Chuli and Melanie Cabrera for Dramatic Duet Acting; Layla Nemri for Extemporaneous Speaking; Orlando Ramirez for Original Comedy; Mariana Salazar for Original Oratory; Maya Quinonez for Prose Reading; and Emma Mathews for Radio Speaking.
Performance in the Round champions include Max Cipriani, Mikey Mills, Elijah Rangel, Fotis Patrianakos, Ryan Infante, Maggie Sheehan, Francesca Crosby, Samantha Martinez, Joyce Reising, Kathryn Fragapane, Taylor Micele , Rosie Caprio, and Juno Granados.

“We are extremely proud of our entire speech team,” Coach Mike Olsson said. “This is the first time Mr. Capriola and I have brought home a sectional championship as head coaches, and we give all the credit to our talented, dedicated students. We’re also beyond excited to see six individual events and our performance-in-the-round compete at state in-person again.”
