Accused Dealer Claims 11 Baggies of Alleged Cocaine Were for His Personal Use: Cops

Man was chatting on his cell phone when he was pulled over by police, prosecutors said.

Bridgeview, IL, June 11, 2016 -- A Chicago man claimed that 11 baggies of allegedly cocaine found in his car was for his own personal use, prosecutors said.
Raul Zavala, 35, was charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession with intent to deliver.
Bridgeview police pulled Zavala over around 10 p.m. June 9 in the 7800 block of Oketo Avenue for talking on his cell phone while driving, prosecutors said.
According to the charges, police found a baggie of suspected cocaine in the driver’s side floorboard. A large plastic bag containing 11 individually packaged baggies were found in the driver’s side vent, totally 8.5 grams.
Zavala allegedly told police the cocaine was for his own personal use. It was packaged individually for daily tracking so he wouldn't overdose.  
Prosecutors said Zavala has past felony convictions for aggravated DUI and unlawful use of a weapon.
Bail was set at $10,000. The judge said Zavala is to remain on electronic home monitoring if he bonds out.
Zavala’s next court appearance is June 29 in Bridgeview.
