Activists Plan March Saturday Starting At Chicago Ridge Mall
March will pass through Chicago Ridge, Oak Lawn, Auburn and Burbank Saturday, Sept. 5. Protesters will remain on sidewalk.
CHICAGO RIDGE, IL — A flier for a protest march that has been circulating on neighborhood Facebook groups is planned for Saturday, Sept. 5. The group will be gathering at 3 p.m. near the Sears entrance at Chicago Ridge Mall, 95th Street and Ridgeland Avenue. The march steps off at 3:30 p.m.
No known group appears to be sponsoring the march. A flier for the protest states: “We demand police, prison and ICE [Immigration Customs Enforcement] Abolition. Reallocation of police funds. For justice to be served for those who have been wronged by the system that has oppressed us all.”
UPDATED ROUTE: The march will proceed east down 95th Street on the north sidewalk from Ridgeland to Cicero Avenue; north on Cicero on the west sidewalk to 79th Street; east on 79th Street to State Road to Ridgeland, back to the Chicago Ridge Mall. There may be some traffic delays when protesters cross intersections.

Police are not anticipating any road closures. Protesters will remain on the sidewalk at all times. There are no plans to close Chicago Ridge Mall for the day. All expectations are that this will be a PEACEFUL PROTEST.
