Advocate Christ Nurses Engage Lawmakers
Nurses travel to Springfield to discuss Medicaid funding, access to care issues

Oak Lawn - Advocate Christ Medical Center nurses traveled to the Illinois State Capitol to talk to lawmakers about issues affecting health care and the nursing profession, such as Medicaid funding and access to care. They were a part of nearly 90 direct care nurses who represented the Advocate system that day in Springfield.
The nurses met with Senate President John Cullerton, House Republican Leader Jim Durkin and local legislators as part of the annual Nurse Advocacy Day. The goal of this advocacy day is to empower nurses to educate lawmakers on the issues that affect their profession and patient care.
Nurse Advocacy Day is hosted by Advocate’s Nurse Advocacy Council, a self-governed council composed of frontline nurses that works to educate and empower the largest nursing audience in Illinois: Advocate's more than 11,000 professional nurses. Advocate is the only known health care provider in the state to provide frontline nurses with this opportunity, thus giving them a stronger voice on legislative issues in Springfield and Washington D.C.
