OAK LAWN, IL—They say hitting a round object with a cylinder is one of the most challenging things to do in sports, but for a pair of Oak Lawn Community High School softball players, the challenge was accepted. Juniors Kamya Feigl and Lexie Blanco hit at a tremendous rate this season with respective batting averages of .444 and .500.
More impressively, the dynamic duo did it and only struck out a pair of times all season in a combined 193 plate appearances. Feigl finished the season without a single strikeout to her name, and Blanco struck out just two times.
“Going into the season we needed Kamya and Lexie to step up offensively, and they exceeded expectations,” Oak Lawn head coach Shawn Neubauer said. “For them both to only strikeout a combined two times in 193 plate appearances is remarkable. I’m looking forward to seeing what other amazing things they can do next season.”
The proof of their impressive seasons really comes with a deeper dive into the statistics for the entire year. Feigl was 36-for-81 at the plate and had an on-base percentage of .550 with a home run, 11 doubles, and 22 RBIs. Blanco was 35-for-69 and finished with an on-base percentage of .598 with 23 RBIs and three triples.
The tandem also shined in the field for the Spartans. Blanco threw 73 innings in the circle in 20 appearances and earned a record of 7-6. She also played third and first base when she wasn’t pitching. As a catcher, Feigl threw out 9 runners trying to steal and picked seven runners off base. She also played a strong first and third base as team captain.
