OAK LAWN, IL — Severe weather and a power outage forced the cancellation of Wednesday night's Park Lawn Queen of Hearts drawing at Fat Tommy's Grill & Sports Bar, but organizers say the postponement could make the next drawing even bigger.
The popular fundraiser, which benefits Park Lawn and its programs for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, was canceled after storms moved through the area and knocked out power at the venue.
Despite the cancellation, all tickets purchased for the scheduled drawing will remain eligible, and ticket sales have resumed for the next drawing on Wednesday, June 17.
The jackpot has now grown to more than $980,575 and continues to climb, placing it within reach of another major milestone for one of the region's most successful Queen of Hearts raffles.
"We appreciate everyone's understanding as we made the decision to cancel due to circumstances beyond our control," said Park Lawn officials. "The safety of our participants, staff, and volunteers is always our top priority."
The additional week of ticket sales gives participants another opportunity to enter as excitement builds around the growing jackpot.
Park Lawn's Queen of Hearts raffle has become a regional attraction, drawing participants from across the Chicagoland area. The organization previously awarded a record-setting jackpot of approximately $2.4 million, one of the largest Queen of Hearts prizes in the area.
With the current jackpot approaching the seven-figure mark, organizers are anticipating strong participation ahead of next week's drawing.
The next Queen of Hearts drawing is scheduled for Wednesday, June 17, at 7 p.m. at Fat Tommy's Grill & Sports Bar and will also be streamed live on Facebook.
Tickets may be purchased online at www.parklawn.com, at Fat Tommy's Grill & Sports Bar, or in person at Park Lawn's Oak Lawn campus.
Proceeds from the raffle support Park Lawn's mission of empowering adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities through residential, vocational, recreational, and community-based programs.
