Patriotism and community spirit were on full display as Oak Lawn celebrated Independence Day with its annual parade on Saturday, June 27. Families gathered along 95th Street, where the parade stepped off at 10 a.m. from 51st Avenue and traveled west to 55th Court, filling the streets with festive energy.

Spectators waved American flags and cheered as a colorful lineup of community organizations, performers, and local favorites made their way through the village. Leading the procession were the Oak Lawn Raiders carrying a large American flag, followed by the Oak Lawn Police and Fire Departments, local Boy and Girl Scout troops, members of the U.S. Marine Corps, U.S. Navy, U.S. Army, Johnson-Phelps VFW Post #5220, and numerous civic organizations.

The parade also featured members of the Oak Lawn Chamber of Commerce, Oak Lawn Village Officials and Village Departments, Oak Lawn Public Library, Oak Lawn Park District, area churches, the Stockyard Kilty Band, the Motorcycle Riders Association, Romagnoli Accordions, Cruzin' Coolers, and representatives from Midnight Terror Haunted House. The iconic Oscar Mayer Wienermobile also made a crowd-pleasing appearance.

Entertainers kept the crowd smiling with dance performances, classic cars, clowns, jugglers, and appearances by popular mascots including Southpaw of the Chicago White Sox, Tommy Hawk of the Chicago Blackhawks, Skates, Chase and Marshall from PAW Patrol, Bluey and Bingo, and Flood Waste Management's mascot. Crowd favorites also included the Jesse White Tumblers, whose high-flying performances earned enthusiastic applause, and the Medinah Shriners Genies.

Children eagerly gathered candy tossed from passing floats, while families enjoyed the festive atmosphere that has become a cherished Oak Lawn tradition. Adding to the community spirit, Romagnoli Accordions opened its doors along the parade route, welcoming paradegoers inside for complimentary lemonade, water, cookies, and fresh fruit, offering a cool and refreshing stop for families enjoying the celebration.

The celebration concluded with a refreshing surprise as the Oak Lawn Fire Department sprayed water from one of its trucks, turning the end of the parade route into an impromptu splash zone that delighted children on a warm summer morning.

Following the parade, the festivities continued on the Village Green, where the crowd was entertained with a lively musical performance, giving families another opportunity to celebrate together.

The Independence Day festivities will continue on Saturday, July 4, when the Village of Oak Lawn and the Oak Lawn Park District present their annual fireworks display at dusk at Richards High School. Residents are encouraged to arrive early for one of the community's favorite holiday traditions.
