OAK LAWN, IL—The Oak Lawn Community High School Dist. 229 is accepting applications from district residents interested in being considered for appointment to fill a vacancy on the seven-member board of education.
The successful candidate will fill a board vacancy left by Kenneth Yerkes, who was elected as a write-in candidate in last year’s consolidated election. The person selected will serve through the April 2027 Consolidated Election if he or she chooses to run for a four-year term.
Interested candidates must complete and submit an online application and a resume to Maria Vanderwarren, assistant to the superintendent and secretary to the board of education, at mvanderwarren@olchs.org. All application materials must be received no later than noon Monday, July 13.
Applications will be reviewed by the D229 school, and selected applicants may be invited to participate in interviews. Interviews may take place during the board’s evening meeting on August 5, in closed session, after which the board is expected to approve the appointment.
The newly appointed board member is expected to be sworn in at the regular board meeting on August 19.
Eligibility requirements for board membership are outlined in the application materials. Applicants should be aware that submitted materials may be subject to disclosure in accordance with the Illinois Freedom of Information Act.
