OAK LAWN, IL—School bells are ringing in a new academic year, and back-to-school planning has already begun at CHSD 218 Richards High School, with calendars available to help parents prepare their children for a smooth transition into the 2026-2027 school year.
Freshmen return to Richards Tuesday, Aug. 11, with all grades reporting Aug. 12 for the first day of school.

Here's a look at some dates to know for the 2025-2026 school year:
Aug. 11 - First day of school, freshmen, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Aug. 12 - All grades report, 8 a.m. to 3:15 p.m.
Sept. 7 - Labor Day, off
Oct. 9 - Student holiday, no school
Oct. 12 - Columbus Day, no school
Nov. 3 - No student attendance, teacher institute/election day
Nov. 26-27- Thanksgiving break
Nov. 30 - Classes resume
Dec. 21-Jan. 5 -Winter break
Jan. 6 - Teacher Institute, no school
Jan. 7 - School resumes
Jan. 18 - No school, Martin Luther King Jr. Day
Feb. 3 - No school
