OAK LAWN-HOMETOWN, IL—As summer draws to a close, back-to-school planning has already begun in Oak Lawn-Hometown Dist. 123 with calendars available to help parents prepare their children for a smooth transition into the 2026-2027 school year.
The first day of school for Dist. 123 students will be a half-day on Aug. 19 for K-8 students, with early dismissal at 11:30 a.m.
Leading into the upcoming school year, some dates are subject to change. We also suggest that you check the full Dist. 123 calendar and your child's school calendar (Covington, Sward, Hannum, Kolmar, Hometown and Oak Lawn-Hometown Middle School) for conferences, open houses, meetings, exams, late starts, early dismissals, athletic and other school events.
Here's a look at some dates to know for the 2026-2027 school year:
Aug. 19 - First day for K-8, early dismissal 11:30 a.m.
Sept. 7 - Labor Day, off
Oct. 9 - Family conferences, no student attendance
Oct. 12 - Indigenous People Day, off
Nov. 3 - Election day, staff institute, no student attendance
Nov. 23 to Nov. 27 - Thanksgiving break
Nov. 30 - Classes resume
Dec. 18 to Jan. 1 - Winter Break
Jan. 4 - School resumes
Jan. 18 - MLK Jr. Day, off
Feb. 12 - Family conferences, no student attendance
Feb. 15 - Presidents Day, off
March 10 - Eid, no school
March 26 to April 6 - Spring break, no school
April 7 - School resumes
May 31 - Memorial Day, off
June 3 - Graduation OLHMS
June 4 - Last day of school, 11:30 a.m. early dismissal
June 7 to June 11 - Emergency makeup days (if needed)
June 18 - Juneteenth, no school
