Arctic Cold To Freeze Oak Lawn: Where To Find Warming Centers

OAK LAWN, IL – Arctic cold will hit the Chicagoland starting Thursday night, according to forecasters, with lows dropping below zero in some areas.

Extreme cold will move into the Chicago region during the overnight hours Thursday into Friday, bringing dangerously cold wind chills as low as 30 to 35 below zero expected. The National Weather Service has issued an “extreme cold warning” in effect from 3 a.m. to noon Friday, with a cold weather advisory in effect for the rest of the weekend.

Check on your elderly neighbors and loved ones. Keep your pets indoors as much as possible and layer up. If you see someone struggling in the street, call 911.

The following warming centers will be open in the Oak Lawn area if you need to get out of the cold, or just want to stop burning money in your furnace for a few hours.

Cook County warming centers will provide water and snacks, as well as access to restrooms. Residents can bring pets in cages or carriers.
