Bail Amount Sparks Angry Outburst In Man Accused of Spitting In Cop's Mouth

Cook County Sheriff’s deputies dragged a man out of a Bridgeview court room following an angry outburst during a bond hearing.

Peter Hollis, 27, was appearing on a charge of aggravated battery against a government employee after he was picked up on an outstanding warrant for robbery in Evergreen Park.

Captain Peter Donovan, of the Evergreen Park Police Department, said that officers responded to a report of a suspicious person around 10 a.m. Sunday morning at McDonald’s, 2620 W. 95th St.

The manager reported that a man, later identified as Hollis, tried to use a CTA pass to pay for food at the restaurant. Hollis also told the manager that he had “88 guns,” Donovan said.

By the time police arrived Hollis had left the restaurant. Officers found him sitting at a bus stop at Artesian and 95th Street holding a McDonald’s cup.

After speaking to Hollis and running his name, police learned that he had a no bond arrest warrant for robbery, Donovan said.

Hollis was taken to the Evergreen Park police station. While in the cell, police said that Hollis placed his foot inside the toilet and continued to flush it.

After an officer told Hollis to stop flooding his cell, Hollis spit through the bars into the officer’s mouth.

Hollis appeared in bond court at the Bridgeview Courthouse on Monday. The assistant public defender told the judge that Hollis suffered from bipolar disease and schizophrenia.

Cook County Judge Peter Felice set bail at $100,000. After hearing the amount, Hollis shouted “f--- this s---” and spit on the floor.

As a sheriff’s deputy struggled to subdue Hollis, at least ten more deputies arrived to drag Hollis out of the courtroom. Hollis could be heard continuing yelling in the prisoner holding area.

Hollis’s next court hearing is July 21 at 26th and California on the violation of bail bond for armed robbery.
