Couple Robs Gas Station In Oak Lawn: Cops

A man and woman, both wearing masks, held up Thornton's gas station at gunpoint early Monday morning taking cash and cigs, cops say.

OAK LAWN, IL -- A man and a woman knocked off a gas station early Monday morning in Oak Lawn, swiping cash and cigarettes, police said. The male suspect allegedly brandished a handgun. The employee was not injured.

According to a police news release, Oak Lawn officers responded to call around 1:45 a.m. at Thornton’s gas station at 91st Street and Cicero Avenue. The male suspect jumped over the counter pointing a gun at the clerk and ordered him to open the register. The female stuffed a bag she had brought with her with various brands of cigarettes.

The male suspect is described as possibly Hispanic, 5-feet-6-inches tall, wearing a long sleeve black shirt, blue jeans, a baseball hat and gloves. The female suspect is heavy set and black, standing 5-feet-8-inches tall. She was wearing a black shirt, khaki pants, a black mask and gloves. Both suspects were wearing masks. It is unknown if the suspects took off in a vehicle or fled the store on foot.
