HLR Jazz Ensemble has an outstanding year

The Harold L.
Richards High School Jazz Ensemble has  a
very successful year

The Harold L. Richards jazz ensemble under the direction
Charles Martin had a very successful season. on March 16^th the HLR
Jazz Band was awarded 1^st
place at the Hercsher Jazz and Swing
Festival  In class AA.  The HLR Jazz was also the overall grand
champion of the Jazz Festival. In Addition both the HLR Jazz Band and Encore
Show choir received the SWEEPSTAKES
award for having two groups at this competition that had the highest combined
score. This is the second year in arrow the HLR has received the Sweepstakes
award.

On March 23^rd the HLR Jazz band traveled to TF
South High School to compete in the Chicago Area Jazz festival. Both the HLR Jazz Ensemble and HLR Jazz
combo received a division I ratings

Later that afternoon the HLR Jazz band traveled to Illinois State University and
participated in the Illinois State Jazz Invitational Jazz Festival. The HLR Jazz band placed 1^st inClass AAA and was selected as the overall Grand Champion of the two day festival. Junior Madeline Doon was selected as one of the five outstandingsoloist of the two day festival. Madeline plays both piano and flute in the HLRJazz Band. The HLR Jazz band was the opening act for the Saturday Night GrandFinale concert that featured the HLR Jazz band and the Illinois State University Jazz band with guest jazz trumpet artist Wayne  Bueregron.
