Bridgeview Officials Claim No Safety Issues at Toyota Park Where Man Fell to His Death

Bridgeview, IL -- A Bridgeivew official said investigators don't believe there was an equipment failure after a Chicago man fell two stories to his death during a concert at Toyota Park.
Robert Smucz, 29, of the 4500 block of North Campbell Avenue, had been attending the Chicago Open Air Festival with two friends when he fell out of mezzanine late Friday evening.

Smucz was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in extremely critical condition where he later died of his injuries.
According to police, the 29-year-old man was sitting on a railing in the stands when it is believed he lost his balance, causing him to fall two stories to the pavement below, said Bridgeview spokesman Ray Hanania.

“We don’t believe this was a safety issue, but rather an unfortunate and tragic accident,” Hanania said.
Toxicology testing is pending at the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Toyota Park is owned by the Village of Bridgeview.
