Burbank Man Tells Cops Individual Packets of Cannabis Were for 'Personal Use': Prosecutor

Burbank man also charged with violating bail bond, including a charge for damaging a cop's bullet-resistant vest, prosecutor said.

BURBANK, IL -- A Burbank man said four sandwich bags of cannabis were for his personal use when he was stopped in Oak Lawn for a traffic violation, prosecutors said.

David Custer, 19, who has pending charges for domestic battery and violating an order of protection, appeared before Cook County Judge Peter Felice on a charge of possession of cannabis with intent to deliver.

According to the charges, Oak Lawn police pulled Custer over for a traffic stop on Aug. 16. The found four plastic sandwich baggies filled with smaller bags containing suspected marijuana. Police also found a digital scale.

Custer told police the marijuana was for his personal use, the prosecutor said.

The assistant public defender told the judge that Custer just started a job at a pizza restaurant.

According to court records, Custer violated an order of protection when he was found inside a Burbank residence that he was ordered to stay away from on June 28. He was also charged with two counts of resisting arrest, when he damaged a police officer’s bullet resistant vest.

Bail was on the new charge was set at $30,000. He is also being held without bail on the two bond violations. Custer is due back in court Sept. 2 in Bridgeview.
